Natural latex bedding is a type of bedding that is created from the raw sap of the rubber tree plant that is indigenous to areas of the world such as Brazil. The rubber is harvested and then is often shipped to North American companies who then use a specialized method of processing the rubber into natural, organic latex. The material is then used in bedding products such as mattresses, pillows, toppers and other products for a bedroom. It is not the same as synthetic memory foam material that is often found in the very same type of products.
Methods of Processing

There are two general methods of processing raw rubber into the latex material that is commonly used today. The oldest of the methods is called the Dunlop method and is the simplest. It yields the absolute purest latex material available and also tends to yield the firmer variety of materials for use in bedding. A Dunlop produced item can easily last for 50 or 60 years, if only generally maintained.
The Talalay method of producing latex is a newer, more refined process that has added a few steps to the process including flash-freezing the molds in which the whipped sap is poured. This method helps to produce more stable, resilient material than the Dunlop procedure. Natural latex that is produced from this method is often used in high end mattresses and can be quite expensive, although particularly comfortable and nontoxic.
Binders and Other Fillers
Natural latex bedding does not have foreign substances in the materials used. However, some companies do not use the two natural methods of producing latex products, but include some latex material within their designs, while also using synthetic memory foam and other substances to create their particular brand. In fact, many companies advertise their products as latex bedding, when in actuality, it is only a part of the material used to create their mattresses and bed toppers.
Shopping Hints for Latex Bedding Accessories
If you want a particular latex bedding accessory, be sure to get the specifics about any item, since so many products have binders and fillers in their materials. One rule of thumb when purchasing a mattress, for example, that is supposed to be made from natural latex, is the fact that if you are paying any less than ,000, you probably aren't getting pure latex. The fact is, it is more expensive to produce and is a luxury product that many people not only find comfortable, but exceptionally good for their health.
